Protection of criminal victims
During the last 6 months, AWEN has been defending 19 victims of criminal offenses in the District Courts. All cases have experienced crimes of gender-based violence against them and their family members.
AWEN has continued to provide legal support for cases that have victims of gender-based violence or for cases that need dignified legal representation in matters of property rights.
Through the legal support provided by AWEN throughout 2023, 89 cases have benefited. Meanwhile, throughout 2024, 24 cases have benefited from legal assistance so far, among whose beneficiaries are also children.
Among the services that AWEN offers, it is noted that those that are most needed by the victims are: procedures for marriage settlement, applications for social assistance, assistance for the ownership of the ahouse, etc.
One of AWEN's main concerns remains the occasional reporting of victims who are asked to pay for free legal services at the country's Municipalities.
AWEN will continue with legal support, as well as awareness, as it considers the rehabilitation of victims of gender-based violence essential for the proper functioning of society.
