Protection of criminal victims
During the last 6 months, AWEN has been defending 19 victims of criminal offenses in the District Courts. All cases have experienced crimes of gender-based violence against them and their family members.
AWEN and other civil society activists marched in protest on March 8, 2024, International Women's Day, in order to denounce current events where women have often been victims of gender-based violence or human rights violations; but also to demand more rights and equality with men, the prohibition of discrimination or violence.
Unlike other years, with the motto "The night is ours", the march was held in the late afternoon, an action that symbolizes the challenge that women and girls make to the insecurity of the roads after sunset, from the lack of infrastructure or the patriarchal mentality.
The march started from "Liria" square, to continue towards the Artistic Lyceum, the Prime Minister's Office, Tirana Municipality and to finish at "Skënderbej" square.
